interactive dermatoscopic examination assistant
idea®
idea® – interactive dermatoscopic examination assistant – is exactly that.
Early detection of skin cancer and dermatoscopy using explainable AI
With idea®, Magnosco is expanding its portfolio to include AI-powered software for dermatoscopy. In conjunction with Magnos®, it supports healthcare professionals in the structured assessment of skin lesions, early detection of skin cancer, and follow-up assessment of skin lesions.
Instead of opaque assessments, idea® highlights the relevant dermatoscopic features, thereby enabling comprehensible, transparent decisions. Our aim is to achieve a trustworthy human-machine interaction that supports – rather than replaces – medical expertise.
What sets idea® apart
How it works
idea® combines modern AI algorithms with recognised dermatoscopy methods.
- Digital image capture: The skin lesion is recorded using the Magnos® digital dermatoscope.
- AI support: idea® analyses the image of the skin lesion within seconds and suggests notable features (patterns, symmetries, colours, etc.).
- Medical assessment: The doctor can review, add to or adjust the suggested features – the final decision always rests with the doctor.
Structured evaluation
Skin analysis
Based on established features such as colours, patterns and symmetries, the analysis is completed within seconds and can be applied directly to the treatment process.

Interactive workflow
Medical adjustments are incorporated directly; the final decision always rests with the clinician.

Expertise
Comprehensive knowledge base on dermatoscopy.

Comprehensible results
Clear analysis with additional information to aid interpretation and patient communication, rather than opaque scores.

Areas of application
- Early detection of skin cancer
- Accurate diagnosis
- Improved management of skin lesions
- Follow-up monitoring
- Further training in dermatoscopy
- Optimised patient communication
idea® is highly versatile and supports use in clinical practice as well as in training and continuing professional development. The visual presentation also facilitates communication with patients.
Why transparent AI?
Trust is crucial in medical diagnostics. That is why Magnosco prioritises transparency: the analysis is not only generated, but also justified. Doctors can review, add to or correct the suggested findings – enabling well-informed decision-making.
Availability
The official launch is scheduled for Q3 2026 – as an MDR Class IIa medical device and an integral part of the Magnos app.
